Open innovation in Anaheim

Friday marks the beginning of #AOM2016, the last appearance of the Academy of Management conference for a decade or more. Since the very first open innovation session at the 2004 AOM, I’ve tried to attend the OI sessions — but nowadays it’s a lot more complex than it used to be.

Below are the 11 sessions that mention OI in the session title:

It’s interesting that there’s only two PDWs and one symposium out of the 11 sessions. These include
  • 116: Organized by Marcel Bogers and Jonathan Sims, it includes an all-star cast of OI facillators, including Lars Frederiksen, Annabelle Gawer, Marc Gruber, Keld Laursen, Ann Majchrzak, Satish Nambisan, Frank Piller and Wim Vanhaverbeke
  • 263: Organized by Gawer and Carmelo Cennamo, its best known panelist is Carliss Baldwin
  • 1910: Organized by Jonathan Sim and me, it includes talks by Laursen, Vanhaverbeke, Sebastian Fixson — with Oliver Alexy as a last-minute replacement discussant
In addition to the first and last of these three session, I will be presenting a paper at session #677. Other sessions have a range of authors but (as is always true with AOM paper sessions) with a collection of loosely related papers.
